The AHA Central Office is supported by 2 distinct editorial advisory boards: Editorial Advisory Board for ICD-9-CM and Editorial Advisory Board for HCPCS.
Editorial Advisory Board for ICD-9-CM
AHA's Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) for Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM was developed along with other health care partners to ensure that the needs of users of the ICD-9-CM classification system are addressed.
The Editorial Advisory Board for Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM is a voluntary advisory board that brings together people with a diversity of health care backgrounds, expertise and knowledge and represents a balanced representation of interests.
Board members represent important stakeholders in the health care community. Along with the AHA, AHIMA, CMS and NCHS it includes:
♦ American Medical Association (AMA)
♦ American College of Physicians/American Society of Internal Medicine (ACP-ASIM)
♦ American College of Surgeons (ACS)
♦ American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
Objectives: To assist hospitals/networks in collecting and reporting standardized quality data by:
♦ Advocating in the federal/national forums to assure that data used by integrated information systems and federal programs is based upon clearly defined and uniform standards since resultant data will be used to evaluate performance
♦ Serve as the authoritative source of coding/classification information
Other expert consultative relationships on an ad hoc basis have been developed with
♦ American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO)
♦ American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG)
♦ American Urological Association (AUA)
♦ American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Inc. (ASPRS)
Editorial Advisory Board for HCPCS
AHA's Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) for Coding Clinic HCPCS was developed along with other health care partners to ensure that the needs of institutional users of the HCPCS classification system are addressed.
The Editorial Advisory Board for Coding Clinic for HCPCS is a voluntary advisory board that brings together people with a diversity of health care backgrounds, expertise and knowledge and represents a balanced representation of interests.
Board members represent important stakeholders in the health care community. Along with the CMS and the American Health Information Management Association, it includes representatives from state hospital associations and AHA members with expertise in coding, billing, finance, compliance and clinical areas.
Objectives: To assist hospitals/networks in collecting and reporting standardized quality data by:
♦ Serve as the authoritative source of hospital HCPCS coding/classification information
♦ Clarify ambiguities related to the reporting of outpatient coding procedures
